Conscientious Objectors in the Civil War
Bradford and Sullivan County


Most conscientious objectors during the Civil War were Quakers or member of other religious sects for whom war was not permitted. These individuals should be distinguished from draft dodgers, deserters and other individuals who avoided or shirked their duty.
