Ella Bridget Sweeney taught at the Cherry Mills School near Ringer Hill. The Harrison girls were both her students and her cousins by marriage. The Harrison family relocated to Elmira, NY about 1917 and teacher and students exchanged cards and letters for several years thereafter. Companion card at bottom of this page.

Editor's Note: In 1876, the Cherry Mills School was opened just across the road from the Sick homestead in Cherry Mills. The school continued in operation for at least fifty years, and the building itself survives as a power station in 2006. You can see two classes from this school in the early 1920s at Family of Johannes Jakob Messershcmidt by going to that page and scrolling down until you find the two consecutive pictures.

Bob Sweeney: Sullivan County Page Coordinator

Robert E. "Bob" Sweeney, born 8/4/46 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.  son of Robert Gerard Sweeney of Towanda, Pa and Teresa Alva Hughes of Wellington, New Zealand.

Married 5/20/73 to Lynn Franklin of Memphis, TN, born 1/7/52.  One daughter--Becca Ariella (Sweeney) Metzger, born 9/11/83. . Wife and her mother are expert cooks and restauranteurs. Lynn is also a very active genealogist for for several counties in Western Tennessee.

Occupation:  CEO, Challenger Corporation, a medical software firm based in Memphis. 

Education:  doctorate in American history from Carnegie-Mellon U., four earned master's degrees; author of three books and many articles.  My wife and I are experienced genealogical researchers on Sullivan County, PA families and on selected families in Tennessee, North Carolina and Arkansas. They are the creators and sponsors of Selected Southern Jewish Databases.

Hobbies:  Competitive soccer.  Competitive duplicate bridge.  Yoga; Weightlifting
