Luther GODDARD had been to his mill for a load of boards, in company with his son an active lad about five years old. On their return, and while walking behind the team the boy expressed a desire to ride and was accordingly placed upon the load. Coming to a descending part of the road, the team quickened their pace, when the boy was thrown from the load, and before he could be rescued, a wheel of the wagon passed over his head and literally crushed it beneath the weight of the load. William MURRELL, Esq., died on Sunday the 23rd June last at his residence near Coffeeville, Alabama, in the 47th year of his age. He was one of the earliest settlers of Coffeeville. He leaves a widow and 5 children.
William Boyd SMITH, Esq., died on Saturday morning last, at his residence near Jersey Shore. His death was caused by an accident in driving a load of hay into his barn; the load being too high, his back came in contact with the beam or girder over the door, by which he received a severe injury, causing a suppression of the spinal marrow, from which he lingered only a few days. He was late one of the Commissioners of Lycoming Co. He leaves a wife and several children.

Hydrophobia –A case has occurred in the vicinity of Mifflinburg. The son of Mr. HORSH, aged about 8 years, was bit in the cheek by a dog supposed to be in a rabid state, between seven and eight weeks since. Every remedy was used to prevent this disease, but had no effect. On Sunday last the first symptoms of madness were visible, and since that time his raving have been indescribable.

Rev. Matthew Lind FULLERTON, died in Hagerstown, MD on Tuesday the 16th Sept., in the 33rd year of his age. He was the youngest son of David FULLERTON, of Greencastle, PA, and was connected in marriage with the family of the late Isaac HEYER, Esq. of this city. His death was very sudden, and it is supposed to have been caused by the agitation produced by an alarm of fire, occasioned by the burning of a chimney, in the vicinity of his dwelling. Abraham BAKER, merchant of Jersey Shore, died suddenly in the Washington Hotel, this Borough, on Saturday morning last, aged about 30 years. He arrived at Mr. HALL’s in the stage on Friday night, on his return from Philadelphia. He had been ill for some time, and when he got this far, he was unable to proceed. His family were sent for on Friday night after his arrival here, but they did arrive until about an hour after his death on Saturday.

Mrs. Eve, wife of John HUFFMAN, died in this Borough on Thursday last, in the 29th year of her age.
Mrs. Margaret, wife of Jackson GRAY, of the New Orleans Theatrical Co., died on board the steamboat, Argus, from Louisville to Cincinnati. She was a native of Philadelphia, and but in her 24th year. She was buried at Lawrenceburg.
Mrs. Sarah, consort of John L. WATSON, merchant of that place, died in M’Ewensville, on Thursday morning last, after a short but painful illness, which she bore with Christian resignation.
Frederick RAPP, Esq., aged about 50 years, died at Economy, Beaver Co. on Tuesday afternoon, the 24th ult. He was one of the leading men of the Harmony Society.
Cavalry Celebration – The 58th Anniversary of our National Independence was celebrated in this Borough by the troops of "Lycoming Cavalry" under Capt. COWDEN. They met in the morning, and after performing various evolutions, were joined on the banks of the river by the new rifle corps of "Lafayette Rangers," under Capt. ALDEN, and by them accompanied thro’ the principal streets of the town, forming a handsome military display. The Cavalry then adjourned to the hotel of Mr. Thos. HAYS, where a bountiful repast was prepared. After the cloth was removed, Capt. J. H. COWDEN, was called to the chair, Geo. ARMSTRONG and E. G. HEYLMUN appointed Vice Presidents and Abraham GRAFIUS and A. B. CUMMINGS, Secretaries. The Declaration of Independence having been read by Secretary GRAFIUS, the following regular toasts were drank, accompanied by repeated and hearty cheers; after which the Troop were again mounted to unite with the procession for receiving the Packet-boat to Loyalsock.

Young Men’s Celebration – The Lafayette Rangers, under command of Capt. M. ALDEN, assembled in market square, in Williamsport, to celebrate the Birth-day of Freedom, in a manner suited to the occasion. After a thorough drill, the company was marched to the courthouse, at which place the Declaration of Independence was read by George ROBINSON and immediately after an oration delivered by Dr. B. F. SHELDON, followed by music. The company then, together with a large number of young men, marched to the public house of Jacob HEIVLEY, where they partook of a sumptuous repast. The cloth being removed, W. G. CARPENTER was called to the chair and E. H. DONNEL, G. ROBINSON, B. STRAWBRIDGE and J. C. HEYLMUN, Vice Presidents and James D. BROWN, Secretary. After the following toasts were drunk amid the deafening cheers of the numerous assemblages.

He was formerly of Philadelphia, where his remains were taken for interment. He had been an engineer on the state rail road and canals for several years, and held the office of Principal Assistant on the Eastern division of the latter.

Death by Lightning – George BREON, of Washington Twp., was struck by lightning while standing in the door of his father’s dwelling on Saturday the 18th inst., and instantly killed. A lad standing by his side in the door was knocked down, but not seriously injured. Two others standing near the door outside were also knocked down, but recovered in about an hour. Those in the house scarcely felt the shock, and did not go to the door for some time afterwards, when they found the four individuals lying on the ground, one of them dead.

John MONTGOMERY, Esq., died at his residence in Clinton Twp., on the 11th inst., after a long and protracted illness in the 73rd year of his age. During the pre-cal year, his wife, a daughter and a daughter-in-law have been numbered with the dead.

Maj. Robert F. CARSON, of Pine Creek Twp., lost an interesting child about 18 months old on the 17th inst., under very melancholy circumstances. His residence is near the canal and the boy had left the house unnoticed, and it was supposed was amusing himself on the towing path, when he unfortunately fell into the canal and was drowned.
