Was committed to the jail of this county on Thursday last, John WILSON, for shooting Isaiah JENNINGS on the morning of the 23^rd ult., at the house of Thomas WILSON, near the mouth of Cowanisque Creek, Tioga. Mr. JENNINGS has since expired. We have not learned the particulars of this unfortunate affair, and if we had, it would be very improper to publish them, as the whole will be brought before a court of justice.

Fire – The barn of Alexander SMITH, of Lycoming Township, was burnt on Thursday the 1^st inst., together with a quantity of hay and grain in the bushel. We understand it took fire in consequence of a boy’s firing a gun off, the wadding of which fell in some straw near the barn. It was with much difficulty Mr. SMITH saved his grain in stacks. Thus in a few moments, property to a considerable amount was destroyed by this devouring element.

Conrad TINBROOK, of Washington Twp., to Miss Elizabeth TATE, on Tuesday the 26^th ult, by John PIATT, Jun., Esq.

Henry KISTOR, of Buffalo, Northumberland Co., was tried at the Court of Oyer and Terminer at Sunbury, which commenced the 3^rd Monday in January, on an indictment charging him with having poisoned his wife. The examination of witnesses occupied from Thursday morning until Saturday night when the court adjourned until 11 o’clock on Sunday. We learn that the jury have returned a verdict of not guilty.

William MORRISON, of Pine Creek Twp., the harvest past, cut 2933 dozen sheaves of wheat, off his own farm; of which 9 dozen of the lightest has been threshed, which produced six and a half bushels. He likewise raised on the same farm this year, about 500 dozen sheaves of rye. This abundance was procured by the industry of Mr. MORRISON’s own family, not highly strong-handed. Go and do thou likewise.

Accident – On Sunday the 16^th inst., Polly SLYGH, aged about 16, in attempting to cross the Susquehanna River in a canoe opposite to this Borough, fell out, she was taken from the water after lying in it about half an hour, and every possible exertion was made use of to recover her, but in vain.

Fire – On Tuesday night, the 1^st inst., was consumed the dwelling house and all the household property and family clothing of Patrick CURRAN, of Loyalsock Twp. The under part of the house not being sufficiently closed, the wind had blown some leaves under the floor to which the fire was communicated from the heart of the hearth. This is not a solitary instance of the improvidence of suffering combustible materials to be within the power of heated hearths. Mr. CURRAN personally suffered by the fire in rescuing one of his children from imminent destruction. The more than ordinary distress of this family has strong claims upon the benevolence of the public. Mr. CURRAN, his wife, and four small children, in this season of the year, are exposed without house, property, clothing or bed! The voice of pity pleads for aid.

Isreal KEITH, died in Pittsfield, VT, in June last, aged about 70. In the war of the Revolution, he was an aid to Major General HEATH and an Assistant Adjutant General.

Frederick RIEBMOYER, died on Saturday last, in this Borough, aged 35 years. He was a shoemaker, but a few years from Germany.

On the 6^th inst., died, at his country residence near Germantown, the venerable Commodore MURRAY, the senior officer of the Navy of the US.

George HELMBOLD, Esq., died in Philadelphia on the evening of the 28^th ult, aged 48 years. He was printer and editor of the Independent Balance.

Robert FARNSWORTH, died on Saturday last, after a lingering illness, which he bore with Christian fortitude. He has left a widow and 8 children.

John MORAN, died on Saturday last, at his residence in Dunstable Twp., in the 37^th year of his age. He was an honest and industrious merchant. He left a worthy companion and several small children.

On the 31^st inst., the barn of Mr. BARTON, of Bloomsburg, was struck with lightning, and was immediately consumed, together with a quantity of hay &c.

Charles BRYAN, died on Friday the 2^nd inst., in Muncy Twp., in the 20^th year of his age.

Henry SHROM, formerly of York, PA, died on Saturday last, in this Borough, at the residence of his father, after a severe illness of 6 or 7 days, which he bore with fortitude. He was 21 years, 3 months and 9 days. The following day his remains were interred in the burying ground of this place, by the "Williamsport Guard", who, in respect to the memory of a much lamented member, adopted a resolution to wear crape on the left arm for 30 days. It is the first instance of mortality in the company. The procession and evolutions of the volunteers were truly affecting. Several hundred people witnessed the last tribute, which was performed in remembrance of this promising youth.

$10 Reward – Stolen from the subscriber some time lately, a large still of one hundred and twelve gallons, with a hole in the side, and the cock taken off. The above reward will be given for the still and thief, or five dollars for either. Saml. LOVE

On Tuesday last, three persons, one man and two women, from Moreland Twp., were committed to the jail of this county, on a charge of having murdered an infant illegitimate child in April last. They will not be tried till the December court. [Note: No names given]

He died among strangers; it will no doubt be gratifying to his friends to learn that every attention was paid to him during his sickness that could have been, had he been among them. The next day his remains were interred in the Presbyterian Burying Ground, attended by a large concourse of citizens, together with a Volunteer Company, of which he was a member.

Commissioner’s Sale for May.

Robert E. HOBART, Esq., one of the representatives from Montgomery Co., died in Harrisburg on Tuesday the 21^st inst., at an advanced age. He remains were removed for interment to that county.

Considerable damage, occasioned by the late freshet, has been sustained in this neighborhood by the washing away of dams, injuring bridges, &c. The water at this place was higher than has been known for some years back.
