Lieber Schwager und Schwägerin,

ich wünsche euch ein glückliches neues Jahr, Gesundheit und Zufriedenheit und langes Leben, das wolle euch Gott aus Gnaden geben. Was uns anbelangt sind wir Gott sei Dank noch alle gesund. Da ich deinen letzten Brief beantwortet habe und keine Nachricht erhalten habe und jetzt bei Gelegenheit ein Zusenden durch Franz Bruschhart möglich ist, so will ich ihm einige Zeilen mitgeben. Er ist aus New York zu Besuch hier ist bei seinen Freunden, und er hat mir gesagt, dass er auch in der 11^ten Straße wohnt und dich auch vielleicht persönlich sprechen kann. Nachdem du das letzte Mal geschrieben hast, dein Boss wäre gestorben und dass auf neue Arbeit wartest, haben wir geglaubt, du tätest uns auch einmal besuchen. Ich denke aber, das Reisegeld ist auch klein bei dir. Ich denke wie du es verdienst, so geht es auch wieder wie bei einem jeden in der Stadt.

Ich täte wünschen du tätest einen Brief nach Deutschland an die […]-Münder schreiben, dass man doch ausfinden kann, ob die Mutter noch lebt oder wie es ist. Du kannst doch viel besser schreiben als ich, wo deine Arbeit nur 10 Stunden dauert und die meine gar keine Zeit hat von morgens früh bis in die Nacht hinein. Ich bin am Sägblock (?) fahren für Ring und habe meinem Ohr wehgetan, ein wenig am Fuß, sodass ich einige Tage nichts tun kann, hoffe aber bis nächste Woche wieder arbeiten zu können. Und du bist in New York, wo du selbst den Brief zur Hauptpost bringen kannst, dass er gewiss nach Schaafheim kommt. Schreibe bald Antwort und deinen Hausnamen.

Ich will mein Schreiben schließen mit vielen Grüßen von mir und meinen Kindern, welche alle in der Schule sind.

I wish you a happy new year, health and satisfaction and a long life, this is what God shell give you at his grace. As far as we are concerned we are all still well, thank God. Since I have replied to your last letter and haven’t received any message so far and now there is the opportunity to send you this via Franz Bruschhart, I want to give him a few lines to take with him. He is from New York, visiting his friends here and he told me that he also lives on 11^th Street and can maybe also talk to you in person. After you wrote the last time that your boss had died and that you wait for new work, we thought you might visit us, too. But I think your travel money is also tight. I think as you deserve it is okay again as it is for everyone in the city.

I wish you would write a letter to Germany to […]-Münder, so that we could find out if the mother is still alive or how it is. You can write easier than me since your work is only 10 hours while mine gives me no time from early in the morning until late at night. I drive/run the `sowblock´ (?) (probably some sow work for another person, Ring) and I hurt my ear and my foot a little so that I can’t do anything for a few days, but I hope to be able to work again by next week. And also, you are in New York where you can bring the letter to the main post office to make sure it will be delivered to Schaafheim. Reply soon and write me your house name (?).

I want to close my letter now with regards from me and my children who are all at school.
