Lieber Bruder und Schwägerin,

ich habe schon vor 9 Jahren einen Brief an euch geschickt. Diesen, den mir der Bruder Peter aus Deutschland geschickt hat, aber ihr habt mich nicht hören lassen und auch vor 7 Jahren, da hat er mir wieder geschrieben und auch das letzte Mal und hat geschrieben, dass er an einen aus Frankfurt geschrieben hat, um euch zu finden, aber er hatte keine Nachricht von euch erhalten und uns gefragt, ob wir nicht wüssten wo ihr seid, da wir nun in dieser langen Zeit keine Nachricht mehr erhalten konnten. Bis diesen Sommer, da kam einer von New York aus Frankfurt nach Laporte als Schreuner (?), den fragten wir ob er ihn kenne. Dann sagte er uns, er ist schon vor fünf Jahren gestorben und hätte zwei Kinder hinterlassen, was mir sehr wehtut, und ichkeine Antwort mehr haben kann aus Deutschland vor allem von der Mutter und wie es ihr geht und es ist die Margaretha auch gestorben. Das wussten wir auch nicht, wo sind jetzt der Mutter Kinder, liebe Schwägerin, da du jetzt wissen willst wie es mir gefällt in diesem einsamen Leben. Ich habe kein einsames Leben. Ich habe viel zu arbeiten und auch zu essen, aber es gefällt mir doch nicht. Es gibt nur ein Schaafheim. Mir gefällt es hier in der Stadt, wo man doch alles kaufen muss was man essen will. Du hast mir nicht geschrieben wie ihr ausmacht. Ich glaube ihr habt schon harte Zeiten gehabt, denn es waren schon etliche harte Jahre, da ich schon vielen Kummer getragen habe wegen euch. Ich muss jetzt mein Schreiben schließen mit vielen Grüßen und ich erwarte Antwort.
