Lieber Schwager und Schwester,

wenn euch mein Schreiben antrifft wie es uns verlässt, so soll es uns herzlich freuen. Wir haben ja lange nichts von euch gehört. Die Anna ist jetzt beinahe ein Jahr von uns fort und hat auch nichts an uns zurückgeschrieben. Wir haben doch so großes Verlangen nach euch, besonders ihre Mutter. Sie soll doch zurückdenken was sie mir noch in Kleestadt versprochen hat. Peter Bohlands Witwe hat schon zweimal geschrieben, aber gar nichts von der Anna. Dem Bernhard Sehlinger (?) sein Sohn hat geschrieben, dass er euch gesprochen hätte. Ich bitte euch doch, dass ihr oder die Anna so bald es euch möglich ist, mir zu schreiben wie es euch geht, dass wir doch unsere Sorgen los sind. Wir sind doch Blutsverwandte. Zusammen werdet ihr doch denken, dass wir noch einmal miteinander sprechen wollen. Wir möchten doch wissen, ob die Anna glücklich zu euch gekommen ist. Wenn wir das kleine Kind fragen wer hat denn deine Strümpf gestrickt, so spricht sie „das Ännchen“. Wenn ihr so viel von uns sprecht wie wir von euch so könnt ihr das Schreiben nicht unterlassen.

Lieber Schwager, deine Mutter lässt euch vielmals grüßen und hat gesagt, dass sie nicht mehr so gesund sei wie früher. Auch dein Bruder Peter wäre schon zweimal im Baad (Bett?) gewesen wegen seiner Gesundheit. Auch will ich euch noch schreiben, dass die Katharina nicht lange ausgehalten hat in Babenhausen und sich wieder nach Schaafheim verdingt hat zu Peter Sauerwein in der Freundlich Gasse wo sie bis jetzt noch ist.

Noch will ich euch schreiben, dass die Früchte bei uns sehr gut geraten sind, aber Kartoffeln hat es bei uns halb so viel gegeben wie sonst. Es ist aber alles sehr teuer. Der Laib Brot zu 5 Pfund kostet jetzt schon 21 Kreuzer.

Weiter weiß ich nichts zu schreiben. Wir sind noch alle in der ganzen Freundschaft gesund und haben alle großes Verlangen nach Antwort.

We long so much for you, especially mother. She shall think back to what she promised me back in Kleestadt. Peter Bohland’s widow wrote twice already but nothing from Anna. Bernhard Sehlinger’s son wrote that he talked to you. I ask you that you or Anna write me about how you are doing as soon as possible so that we can get rid of our worries. Still, we are blood relatives. You will assume that we want to talk for one more time. We would like to know, if Anna arrived well. When we ask the small child who knit her stockings she would say “Anna”. If you speak about us as much as we do about you, you can’t omit writing to us.

Dear brother-in-law, your mother gives lots of regards and said that she isn’t as well as in the past. Also, you brother Peter was in bed (?) twice already because of his health. In addition, I want to write you that Katharina didn’t make it to take it long in Babenhausen and now she settled back to Schaafheim to Peter Sauerwein in the Freundlich Gasse where she still stays.

Also, I want to write you that the crops turned out very well, but the potatoes were just half the amount as usual. Everything is very expensive. A bread loaf of 5 pounds is 21 kreutzer now.

I don’t know what else to write about. All of the friends are still well and we are longing for a response.
