The Descendants of William E. King

The materials in this section present the lineage of WILLIAM E. KING, the father of Perry Watts King whose Diary is posted elsewhere on this site. Our contributor is Connie (King) McMichael, the great-granddaughter of Lemuel Mordecai King, one of William's sons and a brother to Perry. Connie can be reached at the e-mail address at the bottom of this page. Many of the pictures here are contributed by Connie through the generosity of John Lewis King, her uncle, who made the pictures available. The Sullivan County Genealogical Web Project and PAGENWEB are grateful to Connie and John for their very informative contributions.

The Sullivan Review
January 30, 1902

William Everett King died suddenly at his home near Nordmont, Tuesday noon, January 21, 1902. The funeral services were held at his residence on Thursday, conducted by Rev. Bidblack, of Laporte. Interment at Cherry Grove Cemetery, Davidson, township.

Mr. King was born in Northumberland, Nov. 24th, 1817. He came with his father, John King and family, to Elkland Township about 1820. Here he spent his boyhood days and gained a fair education by being taught by his father and attending the Elkland Sunday school. On attaining his majority he taught school, and on Nov. 28th, 1841, was married to Sarah R. Converse. To this union which lasted over sixty years nine children were born, eight sons and one daughter. Five of the children and the aged widow still survived. Oliver, the oldest son, laid down his life for his country, on a southern battle field. Edgar and Stanley died after attaining manhood and entering the busy cares of life. Perry W. Became a school teacher and later a physician. He practiced at Hillsgrove very successfully, but his bright career was cut short by death in 1889. L. Mordaci owns a large farm in Davidson Township. Ward L. is a noted physician and resides at Lairdsville, P. Harvey is an extensive farmer in Lycoming County, Benj. B. lives on the old homestead; Maria C. married Mr. Covert and resides near the old home.

The deceased was a man of sterling character. He cleared up a large farm, was at one time Justice of the Peace and held many township offices. Mr. King was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

There is a great deal more information on the lines of this family. They intermarried with local families with names such as Bird, Glidewell, Rogers, McIlvain, Brown, Converse, Laird, Little, McCarty, Farrell, Sones, Opp, Crosby, Edgar, Annable, Wilson, Crandel, Stevenson, Speary, Harding, Pennington, Byrd, Boyles, Carothers, Warren, Best, Lacey and Molyneux, just to name a few. They arrived in PA in the late 1790's. They made their homes throughout the territory tha would become Sullivan County. Many of their descendants are still in the area. If you are related to any of these people, please contact us. We would love to add your families to My Family's History
