Elizabeth Strang Cook
She was born on July 30, 1866, in Dalgety, Fife, Scotland, the fourth child of John Cook and Margaret Johnston. She married Frederick Robert Brown on October 14, 1884, in Moingona, Marcy Twp, Boone County, Iowa. Fred Brown, was born on July 11, 1856, at Clifton Springs, Ontario County, New York. His father was Richard Robert Brown born June 3, 1817, in Beccles, Suffolk, England. His mother was Margaret Mills, born January 12, 1823, at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. They were married October 15, 1842, at Loddon, Norfolk, England.
The family emigrated to Clifton Springs, New York in the spring of 1846. The children of Richard and Margaret Brown were as follows. The first child was born at Great Yarmouth, England and the rest were born at Clifton Springs, NY:
1. William Marcus Brown, born June 3
2. George F. Brown born June 18, 1846
3. Lucy Ann Brown born December 9, 1849
4. Charles H. Brown born April 1, 1852
5. Frank M. Brown born April 6, 1854
6. Fred R. Brown born July 1, 1856
7. Ella A. Brown born Oct. 30, 1859
8. Arthur Brown born Oct. 3, 1861
The father, Richard Brown, enlisted in the Civil war at the age of 45. His first three sons also enlisted and served in the same regiment with their father. Richard, William and George were all injured and could only do limited work after their discharge. Charles was only 13 and did not see action. Richard taught most of his sons the shoemaking trade.
Elizabeth Cook and Fred Brown had nine children. The first was born in Moingona, Iowa and the rest at Clifton Springs, Manchester Twp., Ontario County, New York:

7. Ella Lucy Brown b Apr. 15, 1897 d Apr 18, 1973
8. Pauline Louise Brown b Jun. 20, 1899
9. Leonard Arthur Brown b Oct 14, 1901 d Mar 12 1994
More on Fred Brown and Libby Cook Brown:
Fred worked as a painter all his life and also made string musical instruments for his Cook and Johnston in-laws and others. He would paint several houses when he traveled to Moingona, Iowa; Douglas, Wyoming; or Red Lodge, Montana to visit relatives, so he could pay for the visits and get home. LIbby died of breast cancer and he had a stroke. They are buried together in Riverview Cemetery near Clifton Springs.
