Mrs. C. C. FINCH, of Laporte, is visiting her daughter, Mrs.COLT

Frank DEEGAN, of Laporte is at home after an absence of two years in Towanda.

Mrs. J. W. YOUNG and Mrs. Thos. IRVING, of Springville, Susquehanna Co., are visiting their mother, Mrs. JACKSON

Rev. Jacob MILLER, of Muncy, who resided in this place from 1851 till 1859, was postmaster for three years during that time, has been spending a few days in this town and vicinity, renewing old acquaintances.

Several young children have died in this vicinity within a few weeks, among the number are a little daughter of Mr. M. REDDING, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas MINER and a child of Mr. and Mrs. BING

Mrs. Melissa, wife of the late John F. DODGE, Esq., of Terrytown, died at the home of her son, John, on Sept. 26th.

Dr. W. J. RANDALL, of Forksville, died on Monday, of typhoid fever. He was one of the prominent men of western Sullivan, and practiced in Sullivan and Lycoming Co. for the past twenty years. He was about fifty years of age, and leaves a widow and several children.

Enoch RAUROCHSON, of Cherry, died on Monday

A little son, aged two years, of Mr. and Mrs. John S. HOFFA, of this place, died Friday of cholera infantum

Dr. N. W. TERRY, of Terrytown, Bradford Co., died on Thursday and was buried in the cemetery at Terrytown on Saturday.

Mrs. J. H. HOWARD, of Wyalusing died on Thursday in Chicago, where she had gone a few weeks previous to visit her sister. Mr. HOWARD received a telegram announcing her illness, but did not reach Chicago until after her death.

Silvester SERFASS, aged about 17 years, and youngest son of Jonas SERFASS, of Carverton, Exeter Twp., while attending the fair at Tunkhannock, exerted his strength on a "lifting machine." Came home, was seized suddenly Sunday evening with a severe pain in the back of his neck and extended down his back. His suffering was terrible. On Tuesday he became entirely helpless and died at 5:30 o'clock Wednesday evening, Oct. 5th. ("Pittston Press")

In Memoriam – Dr. W. J. RANDALL, departed this life Oct. 3rd, in the 45th year of his age. He was born in Columbia Twp., Bradford Co. Early in life he began reading medicine with Dr. AXTELL, of Troy, PA. In 1860, he came to Forksville and commenced the practice of medicine, being the first physician permanently located in that place. In 1864 the Doctor married Sarah A., eldest daughter of Wheeler GREEN, an estimable citizen of Hillsgrove, PA. His funeral was largely attended. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss.

The family of Wm. E. DEEGAN left Dushore last week for Morton Co., Dakota where Mr. DEEGAN has located.

Mrs. SCHOCK, of Colley, died on Oct. 3rd, nearly 70 years. She had enjoyed good health until Sept. 23rd, when she became blind since she has been gradually failing. She was interred in the cemetery of St. John's Lutheran Church, Wilmot on Thursday last. The funeral services had just been concluded when a grandson, Charles, son of John SCHOCK, about 14 years of age, while passing through the barn was kicked by a horse, Dr. HERRMANN, was summoned at once but the injuries were internal, and the boy died on Sunday, and was laid to rest beside his grandmother on Tuesday.

Thomas Luther, died on Sept. 16th, aged 3 years, 11 months and 24 days and Alvah Casper, died on Oct. 6th, aged 1 year, 2 months and 25 days, the children of F. R. and E. KEELER, of Davidson Twp.

A little daughter having taken up her abode with Mr. and Mrs. S. F. COLT Jr. congratulations are now in order.

John MC KERNAN, an old resident of Albany Twp., died on Monday, aged 80 years, and was interred in the Catholic Cemetery at this place on
Wednesday.

Miss BISHLINE, of Hughesville, died very suddenly in a carriage while on her way down from Eaglesmere on Tuesday. She complained to Mr. VAN ETTEN, who was driving, that she felt very ill, and almost instantly expired. ("Muncy Luminary")

James V. BENTLEY, Esq., of Morristown, NJ died on Oct. 5th. He was the son in law of the late S. F. HEADLEY, and was well known among the business men of our town, having visited this place many times on business in connection with the HEADLY estate.

F. P. CUMMISKY who has been at Banner, Idaho for the past two years returned last week. He goes to Erie, Weld Co., Colorado in a few weeks.His family will accompany him.

27 Oct. 1881

George GORDON, one of the oldest residents of Asylum Twp., Bradford Co., died on Saturday

Mr. and Mrs. John DIEFFENBACH, of Cherry, are at Milton, having been summoned there by the death of a sister of Mr. DIEFFENBACH.

Mr. and Mrs. Amos REESER went to Milton on Monday, having been called thereby the death of a sister of Mrs. REESER, a Mrs. FULMER.

New Salem – An only son of Fred ANDERSON died on Oct. 10th
Clara, wife of Charles HOTTENSTINE and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John MULLAN, died on Oct. 23rd. Funeral on Wednesday.

We know of nothing so demoralizing to the young men and boys of our town as the second hand billiard table which has been brought here within the past month. A decided stand should be taken at once by the parents in this vicinity in regard to this nuisance.

George, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur TOUSCHNER, who was employed as driver at the Bernice mines, was caught between the cars on Friday last and instantly killed. The deceased was 12 years, 5 months and 23 days.

3 Nov. 1881

Mrs. CORCORAN, and aged lady, mother of P. C. CORCORAN, died on Thursday

An infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Richard WOODWARD, of Bernice, died on Thursday last.

George BENDER, is an Independent candidate for county commissioner.

Benjamin HERSHBERGER died at his home in Lewisberry, York Co., on Oct.23rd, aged 66 years. He was a former resident of Colley. He was the father of Mrs. Jacob H. YONKIN, of our town.

Mrs. Wm. GRAIFLEY, who resides a mile or two form this place is suffering an attack of paralysis. She is about 80 years of age, and her recovery is somewhat doubtful. She is the mother of John W. and Lewis MARTIN of this county.

Thomas KING, one of the oldest citizens of Elkland made us a call on Tuesday.

F. OSTHAUS, of Overton, spent the Sabbath in town with his daughter, Mrs.Dr. HERRMANN.

10 Nov. 1881

LeGrand BREWER, a poet of some note in Bradford Co., died at Carbon Run on Sunday, aged 26 years

The family of Thomas WARD who resided in Albany Twp. about three miles from this place are afflicted with Diptheria, six of the children being under the physicians care at one time. Two deaths occurred in the family during the past week.

Lewis, son of Hiram LONG, of Cherry, who has been residing in Michigan for the past two years, returned on Tuesday. He is suffering from a severe attack of malaria.

Mrs. Wm. GRAITLEY, died Saturday, aged 84 years. She had lived in this immediate vicinity nearly all her life. The funeral on Monday was very largely attended. Her remains were interred in the cemetery near Daniel BAHR'S.

17 Nov. 1881

Judge Levi P. STALFORD, an old and respected citizen of Wyalusing Twp., died on Sunday.

Peter SKELLEY, of Bernice and Miss Maggie BARRY of Albany were married on Nov. 7th.

Mrs. Thomas MC HALE who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin CURRY of Cherry, died at Leadville, Colorado on Nov. 1st. Her remains were brought to Scranton for burial.

Joseph MITTENDORF and J. C. COOK purchased the blacksmith and wagon shops in this place, known as the RICHARTS shops.

Rev. Conley PLOTTS, minister of the Baptist Church, who many years ago taught a boys' school here, died at the residence of his brother, W. L.
PLOTTS, on Tuesday, in his 73rd year. The funeral will be held on Friday. ("Muncy Luminary")

John BRISLIN, of Cherry and Miss Mary MC GUIRE, of Terry, Bradford Co. were married at this place on Tuesday.

James CAVANAUGH and Miss Mary O'NEIL, of Albany were married at this place on Tuesday.

24 Nov. 1881

Isaac BUCK, who left this section 26 years ago and settled in Illinois, has returned to visit his relatives and acquaintances.

Terrytown – Myron BABCOCK has gone to Missouri where he owns some real estate.

31 Nov. 1881

Newton WALDRON, of Troy, was killed Friday morning by jumping from a moving freight train near Granville Summit, he was 24 years of age.

Dr. J. D. LESLIE, of Lincoln, Nebraska, committed suicide at Montrose, Susquehanna Co. last week while visiting his brother at that place.

Mrs. William RYAN, of Bernice, died Saturday, from consumption. The funeral was held on Monday.

Mrs. John SULLIVAN, of Towanda was in attendance at the funeral of her sis-in-law, Mrs. RYAN

Mrs. MURPHY of Washington DC, is in this place, having been called here by the death of her mother, Mrs. DONOVAN.

Miss Mary MOSBACHER, of Overton, has returned from Kansas where she has been for the past six weeks visiting her brother, Charles, formerly of this town.

Henry SWANK, Esq., of Davidson Twp., spent a couple of days in Hughesville this week on business. Mr. S. is a practical surveyor by profession, a good democrat in politics and an excellent citizen and neighbor ("Hughesville Enterprise")

Miss Lou GAVITT, of Laporte, who has been in Minnesota for the past six months, has returned and is teaching the LOW school. She is one of our best teachers.

Lewis LONG, died at the residence of his father, Hiram, in Cherry Sunday night. He was about 30 years of age and unmarried.

Mrs. DONOVAN, widow of James DONOVAN of Cherry, died on Sunday, aged 80 years. She was one of the oldest residents of this vicinity.

Mrs. William O'CONNELL, of Elmira, formerly Miss Susan HARRINGTON, of Cherry, died at her home on Wednesday the 15th inst. She was about 35 years of age. Her remains were brought to this place for burial.

Margaret SULLVAN, of Lock Haven was found on Saturday lying at the foot of her stairs, suffering from injuries that resulted in her death. The coroner's jury found that the deceased came to her death by means of a blunt instrument in the hands of her husband, who is in jail.

Samuel RINEBOLD, of Forks Twp. and Miss Mary E. JACOBY, of Laporte Twp., at Wesleyan Parsonage, Millville, on Nov. 9th, by Rev. G. L. Paine.
